Service Tip:
The upper king pins themselves usually do not
need replacement. If yours are worn or rough, order the
QK4550 kit which includes both upper king pins, a ¾" drive
impact socket/hex bit, and high strength Threadlocker. The
Dana recommended king pin torque is 600 ft-lbs.

Axle U-Joint Kit
|
Axle U-Joint QuadKits come
complete with your choice of greaseable or cold-forged, non-greaseable axle u-joints
plus the special tools, small parts, and chemicals you'll need
to do a professional quality job. Both types of u-joints are
the best production units that we have ever
found. As a rule, the greaseable joints are a little easier to
install because their flexible seals purge air as you press the
caps in. On the other hand, the non-greaseable types with their
superior seals trap air under pressure during assembly which
helps keep contaminants out. Remember, a greaseable joint that
is not regularly lubed will prematurely fail from water
contamination. So, if you and your grease gun don't get together
very often, we recommend you select the non-greaseable version! Each kit includes 2 axle u-joint assemblies,
½" drive spindle or axle shaft nut socket, RTV sealant, anti-seize,
Threadlocker, disc brake lube, and

Thrust Washer for 1986-1992 Ford Bronco and F150 4x4
trucks with factory Automatic Locking Hubs. This steel
Thrust Washer fits over the outer axle shaft and it fits
against the end of the spindle. These vehicles all came
with the Dana 44 Twin Traction Beam Front Axle.
Dan the Gear Man Tech Tip: Lack of lubrication is
the usual cause for this part to fail. It is also called

F150 trucks except for some 1978-1979 F150 Super Cab trucks and
all 1971½-1979 Broncos were
equipped with a Dana-Spicer Model 44 Open Knuckle Front Axle.
The wheel hub on these trucks is approximately 3-3/8" in
diameter. The 1967-1971 axles had King Pins with tapered roller
bearings, 1973-1979 trucks all have Ball Joints. |
