The synchronizer and small parts components supplied in our kits are  genuine New Venture parts.  These parts are more expensive when compared to what everyone else sells, but we have found from bitter experience that saving a few dollars with aftermarket parts does not work out.  In particular, the aftermarket bronze synchronizers many tout as an "improvement" over the high-tech New Venture rings, are in reality a step back to the stiff shifting, light truck transmissions of 40 years ago. Our NV4500 Kits are simply the highest quality and most comprehensive NV4500 rebuild, overhaul, and service kits you can get.

MAINSHAFT CHOICES

Besides the factory style mainshaft, there are 3 types of mainshafts sold for NV4500 HD transmissions in Dodge Diesel and V10 trucks.  For complete descriptions of the differing mainshaft styles go to:  Tech Article about 5th Gear Failures and the Torque King® Solution!

Our Patented Torque King®  mainshaft is by far the best mainshaft on the market for both strength and resistance to 5th gear failure.  We are the only supplier that can guarantee NV4500 shafts and gears against the types of fifth gear failures that plague other designs regardless of mileage or age.  No full spline shaft supplier dares  provide this type of warranty.  One big difference is our unique shaft design completely supports the 5th gear so it can't rock loose.  Another difference is our shafts are precision machined by top flight manufacturers noted for outstanding quality and high precision machining.  (U.S. Patent No.:  7,210,366)

 The grade of steel used in our Dodge 4x4 Gold series shafts is of such high quality that the raw material cost alone is greater than the wholesale price of any other NV4500 shaft being sold today except for original equipment New Venture Shafts.

We developed the Torque King® design in response to a pattern of  failures experienced by the full spline shaft designs touted by others, including gear loss, spline failure, shaft breakage, spun bearings, and poor fits. Torque King®  shafts are far superior to any other NV4500 shaft design.  Our shafts have stronger steel, more accurate machining, and are of superior design.  No Torque King® fifth gear has ever come off in service.  No Torque King® shaft has ever broken, nor has a spun rear output bearing or any other shaft failure ever been reported.  Since we first introduced our prototypes in 2002, there has been ZEROshaft or nut failures! (Yes, we did have one 5th gear come back with broken teeth which led to our discovery of defective cast iron tailshaft housings, see the bottom of this page for more info)

Torque King® shafts for NV4500 transmissions are offered in two versions:  

Torque King® SILVER is the original Torque King® design for all NV4500 transmissions.   Featuring a matched shaft with a load bearing support pilot under the gear teeth and double nut set with anti-rotation washer for Dodge or single nut set for GM 4x4 units. Shaft steel meets or slightly exceeds original equipment specifications.  Shafts Made in U.S.A. except SI series are imported from Japan.  (Great Pricing on Dodge 4x4 29 spline SI series shafts!)

Torque King® GOLD shaft sets for Dodge feature a matched shaft with a load bearing support pilot under both ends of the gear and either a triple nut set  for Dodge 4x4 29 spline applications or double nut set with anti-rotation washer for Dodge 4x2 and 23 spline 4x4 models.  Each Torque King® GOLD shaft, gear, and nut set is a precision machined, matched set for accurate fit and long life.  Steel used in Dodge 29 spline shafts exceeds original equipment specifications, other applications equal original equipment.   Made in U.S.A.  When long term NV4500 Transmission reliability in rigorous conditions is required, choose the best:  Torque King® GOLD

5TH GEAR KITS

Nut and 5th Gear Kits

IMPORTANT NOTE

Aftermarket kits are only intended for use in NV4500 transmissions with serviceable mainshafts.  Inspect the 5th gear area of your original mainshaft for wear.  The un-splined area that supports the 5th gear should not be significantly grooved from the old gear.  The new 5th gear should be a press fit.  If you can slide your new 5th gear on the original mainshaft, you should not install this kit as premature failure may occur!  If this is the case with your transmission, you will also need to replace at least the mainshaft and 5th gear.

Dan the Gear Man® Service Tip:  The 1-2 synchronizer uses two 3-piece synchronizers.  The middle, carbon fiber surfaced ring, is included in all our synchro kits.  The inner and outer rings are made of stamped steel and may be reused if they are not scored or burned.  To be on the safe side, we always replace all the synchro rings with genuine NVG rings during a rebuild.  We recommend you do too.

Complete Bearing and Seal QuadKits are true original equipment replacements with the exact Timken® and Torrington™ bearing numbers as supplied to New Venture.  This is important because 5 of the 8 tapered roller bearing components used in the NV4500 are improved versions of  standard series bearings.  These bearings are identified with unique suffixes.  While standard bearings may dimensionally interchange, they do not meet the strict New Venture design specifications and may not provide satisfactory service life.  Our seals are also exactly as specified by New Venture. Each bearing kit includes ALL the bearings and seals for a particular transmission.  We custom assemble our kits to match your transmission so you don't have to pay for a lot of extra parts as you would from will-fit kits sold elsewhere.  Note: Dodge 4x2 Tailshaft Bushing sold separately.  Made in U.S.A. although occasionally Timken does supply us with some bearings from their overseas plants.

Complete and ready to install!  Includes The only Cast Iron housing double checked for trueness and with machined flat bolt seats. 8 genuine NVG retainer bolts, output seal, dowel alignment pins, and RTV sealant. We documented two major problems with Cast Iron tailshaft housings in March of 2006. Read our Tech Article to learn more!

There are a number of companies importing cast iron housings. 
We have checked every make we could find and everyone single one has problems with either fit or bolt distortion (or both).  As of November 2009, 3-1/2 years after we brought the situation to light, we finally have found a company that has corrected the accuracy and transfer case fitment problems.  We are again offering our QK1122 and QK1039 Tailshaft Housing Kits using housings that we have both checked for accuracy and machined all 14 bolt seats.  With our additional labor input these are certainly not the cheapest housings on the market but they are the the only ones you can install with confidence.
