Bearing and Seal Kits
Torque King® Complete Bearing and Seal are true original equipment replacements with the exact Timken® and Torrington™ bearing numbers as supplied by New Venture.  This is important because of the 8 tapered roller bearing components used in the NV4500 are high-performance versions of standard size bearings.  These bearings are identified with unique suffixes.  While standard bearings may dimensionally interchange, they do not meet the strict New Venture design specifications and may not provide satisfactory service life in Diesel and high performance gas applications.  Our budget priced Custom Kits are a good quality alternative for your less demanding gas or small Diesel application. If you had the back of the mainshaft nut off your NV4500 and the mainshaft is still good, you can replace the mainshaft 5th gear without removing the transmission with one of our mainshaft nut and fifth gear kits. 

Torque King® 5th Gear Retrofit Kits for Dodge NV4500HD transmissions behind Cummins Diesel or V-10 gas engines. If you just "lost" 5th gear for the 1st time, or your transmission has never had a 5th gear failure, the Retrofit Kit may be for you.  A special matched gear, sleeve, and double nut set will keep your Dodge rolling without removing the transmission from your truck!  This kit is NOT suitable for high mileage transmissions or ones that had the stock nut and gear replaced after a failure. Retrofit Kits are intended to get your transmission to the end of it's otherwise normal life and then be replaced with a Torque King® Mainshaft Set. Dan the Gear Man® Tech Note: Aftermarket 5th Gear Kits are really just a stop-gap repair to buy you time. Why? Because the actual cause of your nut backing off is radial movement from inadequately supported fifth gears on factory and full spline Mainshafts working against the nut set until it loosens. If used with a mainshaft that has just had it's first failure, you may get months or years of use from one of these Kits before the nut backs off again. However, the more worn the shaft, the quicker the failure. So if you install a new gear on a used shaft that has had several previous failures, don't expect much life out of the fix! The only true, permanent solution to keeping the mainshaft 5th gear in place is to install a Patented Torque King Mainshaft, Gear, and Nut Set. Mainshaft and Master Overhaul Kits
When I retired from the day to day operations of the business and turned over the reins to the younger family members, it was with the understanding I would not override their decisions. When the time came to renew the long term production contract for our Torque King® Mainshaft Sets, the family looked at the advancing age of NV4500 equipped vehicles, plus the unavailability of original equipment (or better) 3rd, 4th, and countershaft gearing. After deliberation, the decision was made to let the contract lapse even though Torque King® sales reached a record high in 2011. My arguments that Cummins powered trucks with NV4500 transmissions are going to stay on the road for many years did not carry the day. So as of January 2012, we are sold out on Torque King® mainshaft Sets and Master Overhaul Kits for New Venture NV4500 transmissions. There are no plans at this time to resume production.

Shift Kits
NV4500 Transmissions used two types of shift covers. Early versions, found on 1992-1994 GM and 1992-1997 Dodge trucks use an integral cover with built in tower. These early covers have a removable shift stub held down by a spring and twist lock cap and have a replaceable rubber tower seal. All the later transmissions have a flat top cover and separate bolt-on shift tower. We stock original equipment, genuine NVG Shift Kits for left-hand drive vehicles for both cover types. Tech Note icon Dan the Gear Man® Service Tip:  The 1-2 synchronizer uses two 3-piece synchronizers.  The middle, carbon fiber surfaced ring, is included in all our synchro kits.  The inner and outer rings are made of stamped steel and may be reused if they are not scored or burned.  To be on the safe side, we always replace all the synchro rings with Genuine New Venture rings during a rebuild.  We recommend you do as well!

There are a number of companies importing cast iron housings.  We have checked every make we could find and everyone single one has problems with either fit or bolt distortion (or both).  As of June 2011, over 5 years since we brought the situation to light, we still have not found a company that can consistently supply accurate NV4500 tailshaft housings so we have dropped them from our inventory.

Montana's East Rosebud Lake
East Rosebud Lake is located at the end of the road in East Rosebud Canyon south of Roscoe, MT. Nearly Surrounded on by National Forest, the Lake has been privately owned by the Alpine Homeowners Association whose homesites border the northern shore since 1894. Limited public access is allowed for boating. Two National Forest Trailheads accessing the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness are located just to the east (right) of the Lake. Another Trailhead is located just a bit North of the Lake. A severe forest fire rampaged through the area in 1996 burning huge swaths of forest and several cabins in Alpine.
