Dan the Gear Man® Tech Note 1:
Until the later 1980's, almost all Dana-Spicer axles used reusable shims to set the pinion preload. Most, but not all Model 30, 44, and 50 axles built since that time use QU40208 nonreusable collapsible spacer (crush sleeve) for preload.
